Dear Readers,
It is with a very heavy heart that I have to share the sad news of passing away of our founding Director Sri DS Rajan in New Jersy ,USA earlier today of heart attack. He had gone to visit his Son and was to have returned on 10th May. We in C3S are deeply saddened by this sudden passing away of a thorough professional and a lovely human being. His mortal remains would be flown to Chennai by Monday and the funeral will be conducted thereafter. Our condolences to the family members in this hour of grief . May the lord almighty give them the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss. Our prayers for the safe passage of this noble soul on its eternal journey.
C3S has lost a Sinologist, a Distinguished Fellow of great repute and above all a wonderful human being and the loss is immense and immeasurable.Despite being an authority on China issues , he was always humble and won every one with his disarming smile and pleasant ways. As a founding Director, Sri Rajan laid the foundation of C3S and continued to work selflessly to promote the objectives of this unique think tank.He has played a key role in building of this institution and his enormous contribution along with other founding members both past and present has made C3S what it is today.
Personally,I have known Sri Rajan since 2005 when I joined ORF where he also was working as a Research Fellow.
Subsequently on leaving ORF in 2008, we shared a roof where both the C3S and the Center for Asia Studies worked in tandem. We have enjoyed the best of professional and personal relations. For me the loss is very personal as I feel that I have lost my elder brother who was by my side in lot of things that we did together.
The condolence meeting will be held in the premises of C3S on 27th evening at 16:00 hrs.
Rest in Peace, Dear Sri Rajan
In deep grief and with prayers
Commodore RS Vasan IN( Retd)
Director C3S
