C3S launched its Issue Brief initiative. An issue brief is a summary of the knowledge surrounding an issue or a problem. It summarizes the issue by giving clear, concise, and complete information describing all facets of a particular issue including a detailed illustration in the form of images, data, and facts. It also includes recommendations for action and predictions on the future course of an issue.

Abstract

Bangladesh is in upheaval following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation amid escalating violent student protests. What began as a demonstration against the country's quota system evolved into a broader anti-government movement. After 15 years in power, Sheikh Hasina has fled to India, ending her tenure. With a key ally in India now out of office, India faces challenges in maintaining its strategic relationships in a region where many countries are also experiencing instability.

This issue brief examines the Bangladesh crisis, tracing its origins and the involvement of student unions. It also analyzes the impact of external actors and the implications for India, emphasizing the need for adjustments to India’s Neighbourhood First Policy in response to the shifting political dynamics in the region.
